The client came to us with a photograph of a classic oval solitaire engagement ring in yellow gold clean lines, a secure 4 prong setting, and a beautiful IGI certified lab grown diamond in E color and VVS2 clarity. She admired its simplicity but wanted to honor her grandmother's Art Deco jewelry collection by adding vintage character to the band. She asked if we could introduce milgrain detailing and marquise side accents without losing the elegance of the original oval center stone or the security of the prong setting. We redesigned the band with flowing Art Deco-inspired curves, intricate milgrain work along the edges, and carefully placed marquise accent diamonds that frame the center stone with romantic, geometric balance. The result is this 14K gold vintage engagement ring a design that bridges two eras while preserving the brilliance and clarity she first fell for.

Brief

The client arrived with a photograph of a classic oval solitaire engagement ring set in yellow gold clean lines, a secure four-prong setting, and a beautiful IGI certified lab-grown diamond in E color and VVS2 clarity. She admired its simplicity and timeless elegance, but wanted to honor her grandmother's Art Deco jewelry collection by introducing vintage character to the band. She asked if we could add milgrain detailing and marquise side accents without losing the elegance of the original oval center stone or compromising the security of the prong setting.

Our design team translated her vision into detailed CAD renders, testing proportions between the oval center stone and the marquise side accents to ensure optical balance. They refined the milgrain borders along the band, adjusting depth and spacing for authentic Art Deco character without overwhelming the four-prong setting. Multiple angles confirmed that light would travel cleanly through the E VVS2 diamond while the hidden halo remained subtle beneath the crown. Once she approved the final render, we locked the specifications and moved into production.

Stone selection

We sourced an oval cut lab grown diamond in E color and VVS2 clarity, certified by IGI to guarantee its quality and provenance. The client had requested a stone that balanced exceptional brilliance with responsible sourcing, and this diamond delivered both colorless, eye-clean, and cut to excellent proportions. Its elongated oval shape complemented the Art Deco band design, while the E color and VVS2 clarity ensured the vintage accents would never overshadow the center stone's inherent fire and transparency.

Setting

The setting was built in 14K yellow gold to match the warmth of her grandmother's heirlooms, with a secure four-prong head that cradles the oval center stone while maximizing light return. The band profile was sculpted with flowing Art Deco curves and finished with traditional milgrain edges that catch the light with each movement. Round brilliant and marquise accent diamonds in E color were set along the shoulders to create a hidden halo effect, framing the oval without overwhelming its natural geometry or vintage character.

Final

The finished ring arrived as a seamless fusion of past and present. The oval lab-grown diamond still E color, VVS2 clarity, still secured in four prongs now sat within a flowing band of milgrain detailing and marquise accents that echoed her grandmother's Art Deco treasures. The 14K gold felt substantial in hand, each curve deliberate, each accent stone placed to honor both the client's vision and the original simplicity she had admired in that first photograph.
